An ancient fishing village within the East Neuk, Lower Largo is situated on Largo Bay, along the north side of the Firth of Forth. It has a pretty harbour, which is now home to pleasure craft rather than fishing boats, and a long beach. The Main Street winds its way along the shoreline. Andrew Selkirk, a Scottish Sailor who spent 4 years as a castaway on an uninhabited island is said to have inspired Daniel Dafoe's fictional character, Robinson Crusoe. A life size bronze statue of Selkirk can be found outside the site of the cottage where he was born. An ideal location close to the new Dumbarnie Golf Course and Country Club (scheduled to open 16th May 2020), and approx 20 mins drive from St Andrews.
