Stylish former School House, 8 mins drive to seaside resort of Elie, 20 minutes drive to historic St Andrews, the home of golf
Less than five miles from the pretty seaside resort of Elie, set within the small hamlet of Newburn, the Schoolhouse occupies an enviable position which takes full advantage of stunning views to the Firth of Forth. Beautifully decorated and furnished throughout, with approx. 1 acre of garden, properties of this size and standard are rarely available for holiday letting in the East Neuk
In its original form, Newburn School House dates back to the early 17th Century. Following extension in the mid-1800's, and further during the 1930's, it has served as a School and Village Hall during its previous lifetime. In 2007, It was bought by its current owners, who sympathetically renovated it, with the assistance of Lorn Macneal Architects, to create the outstanding home which is available to let today.
To the left of the elegant entrance hall, the West Wing retains a traditional feel, with well proportioned rooms which have been opulently decorated and furnished. To the right, the East Wing provides a fabulous, contemporary balance, with an abundance of windows flooding the large dining kitchen, semi open-plan sitting room and separate games/party room, with natural light. The former porch has been converted into a WC.
The back door gives direct access to the north part of the house which has the boot room, a beautifully fitted Butler's kitchen/utility room, and ground floor Shower Room. Great when coming in from the gardens and the beach.
On the first floor, the spacious master bedroom has an en-suite bathroom and dressing area. The further four bedrooms share two bathrooms.
On the second floor, bedrooms 6 and 7 are positioned either side of the landing, and share a shower room which connects to bedroom 8. In addition, there is a large bunk room which is accessed through Bedroom 7.
Immediately in-front of the house, there are well tended lawns either side of the front door, with a paved dining terrace which is accessed directly from the dining kitchen. There is a gravel drive and parking area to the side, together with additional garden grounds which have a sunken trampoline.
At the rear, there is additional parking and a raised lawn with a tree house.
Immediately across the single width country road, is a 0.8 acre orchard surrounded by high hedges. There is a circular pavilion with a raised dovecote in the middle. There is also a circular hedged area with a pagoda and a vegetable area in the corner.
Elie has lots to offer visitors including golf, tennis, a watersports centre and some of finest beaches in Scotland, as well as several pubs & restaurants. Elie is just one of the many pretty coastal towns that occupy this stunning stretch of coastline — connected by the Fife Coastal Walk pathway — including Pittenweem (famous for its arts festival), St Monan’s and Crail (where you can buy fresh crab and lobster at the harbour).
The area is Golfer heaven with Lundin Links and Elie Golf House (plus Elie Sports Club also offers a nine-hole course suitable for beginners, a pitch and putt green as well as tennis and golf camps for children during the school holidays) whilst the famous links courses, the Old Course St Andrews and Kingsbarns, are less than 15 miles away. A brand new course, the Dumbarnie Golf Links Golf Course and Country Club, located directly in front of Newburn Schoolhouse, is scheduled to open in May 2020. Just outside of Elie, there is an equestrian centre at Kilconquhar Castle Estate and the recently revamped 17th century pub and restaurant, The Kinneuchar Inn whose chef patron, James Ferguson, has outstanding culinary credentials.
